This Buddha is made of solid gold and is about eight feet tall, weighing five tons -- there's a lot of gold there. It was only discovered in 1955 while moving what they thought was a stucco Buddha. The statue was dropped while being transported on a crane and a crack in the stucco revealed the gold beneath. People that study such things say that it would have been covered in stucco years ago during an invasion to keep it from being taken and melted down.
