Back in the day, if you were a king in Thailand the thing to do was apparently to build a big Buddha. Buddhas in the Lotus position were popular, but as kings tried to outdo their predecessors someone realized it would be easier to make a big Buddha that was lying down. This huge statue, which is forty-six meters long and fifteen meters high, was the result.
