The temples in Angkor were consumed by the jungles for hundreds of years until the French started clearing away the vegetation and rebuilding things. Unrest in Cambodia stopped all archaeological work, and only in the past few years have teams again been able to work. In several places the ruins have become so overgrown that the vegetation now acts as a support for the stone, such as this doorway and fig tree.
