{"id":984,"date":"2008-12-01T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-02T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mountaininterval.org\/journal\/2008\/12\/01\/in-brief\/"},"modified":"2017-06-08T21:00:01","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T04:00:01","slug":"in-brief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mountaininterval.org\/journal\/2008\/12\/01\/in-brief\/","title":{"rendered":"In Brief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lot has happened this month:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/change.gov\/\">Obama<\/a> was elected President; I&#8217;m excited and optimistic.<\/li>\n<li>The stock market and economy have continued to crash &#8211; the DOW is off almost 50% from its high point, and my savings are in a similar predicament.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cheesemans.com\/\">Ted<\/a> called, and it looks like I may be taking a trip to swim with whales in March.  I&#8217;m ready.<\/li>\n<li>The annual Holliday Thanksgiving extravaganza took place over the weekend, and Sally once again produced a ridiculously great meal.  Much food was eaten, and much fun was had.<\/li>\n<li>Following Thanksgiving the family headed off to the horse races; betting on horses based on odds and jockey records was a losing strategy for me; betting based on which horse had the best name was much more successful.<\/li>\n<li>Aaron and I embarked on our usual shenanigans, including a quest for expired food items that led to some gagging as we disposed of a 25 year old bottle of lime juice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/photos\/south_georgia\/highlights\/pages\/2004-11-B\/2771-saunders-king-penguin_RJ.html#top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/photos\/images\/2004-11-B\/2771-saunders-king-penguin_RJ.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" alt=\"King Penguin Detail\" class=\"img-main\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">Random pretty picture &#8211; detail of a King penguin&#8217;s neck feathers.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot has happened this month: Obama was elected President; I&#8217;m excited and optimistic.
