In conversation the Inuit are different from any people I&#8217;ve ever met in that their conversations often move very slowly and deliberately.  Having been brought up to fear the &#8220;awkward pause&#8221;, conversing in this manner can be quite an unusual experience.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n\t\t\tHim: Hello.<br \/>\n\t\t\tMe: Morning!  How&#8217;s it going?<br \/>\n\t\t\tHim: Oh, pretty good. <i>(awkward pause)<\/i> What are you doing?<br \/>\n\t\t\tMe: I&#8217;m just hanging out.  Are you hunting?<br \/>\n\t\t\t<i>(awkward pause)<\/i><br \/>\n\t\t\tHim: Yeah&#8230; <i>(long awkward pause)<\/i> Have you seen any animals?<br \/>\n\t\t\tMe: No, sorry, just a few ptarmigan.<br \/>\n\t\t\tHim: Oh&#8230; <i>(long awkward pause)<\/i> Are you hunting?<br \/>\n\t\t\tMe: No, no, just hanging out.
