It took me a while to get out on deck, but once I finally did it took only a few minutes of watching whales lunging and fluking within spitting distance of the ship before I got my camera.  As usual my photographic skills were only sufficient to capture some shadows on the water that might (with imagination) look like whales, but it was fun.<\/p>\n<p>On a slightly different note, during conversations at the bar last night Carter was talking about mountain lions and said he had a problem with them &#8220;chasing the llama&#8221;.  When I asked if that was a metaphor it was realized that, while he does actually own a llama, it <i>should<\/i> be a metaphor.  It works for anything:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\t\t&#8220;What were you doing last night?&#8221;<br \/>\n\t\t&#8220;Oh man, I was up all night chasing the llama.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t&#8220;You feeling OK?&#8221;<br \/>\n\t\t&#8220;Dude, I&#8217;m chasing the llama&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t&#8220;Man, you crack me up.&#8221;<br \/>\n\t\t&#8220;That&#8217;s &#8217;cause I&#8217;m always chasing the llama.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doug woke everyone up this morning at 5:45 to announce that a group of humpback whales was lunge feeding around the ship.
