I arrived permanently in <a href=\"\/journal\/2005\/08\/20\/threes-company\/\">August 2005<\/a>, but was doing contract work at Warner Brothers on and off from <a href=\"\/journal\/2002\/12\/05\/los-angeles-california-2\/\">December 2002<\/a> onwards.  That means that I&#8217;ve spent more of my life in LA than in any other place besides <s>the Mistake by the Lake<\/s> Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p>LA is a city that I never would have picked to be the place I would settle down, but I&#8217;m tremendously lucky to get to live here.  What other city has something that compares to the <a href=\"\/journal\/2013\/07\/29\/july-2013\/\">Hollywood Bowl<\/a>?  Or contains the <a href=\"\/journal\/2013\/04\/28\/april-2013-part-i\/\">world&#8217;s largest known deposit of Ice Age fossils<\/a>?  While living here I can <a href=\"\/journal\/2013\/10\/20\/i-get-to-live-here\/\">walk to the ocean to see all manner of sea critters<\/a>, and enjoy a seemingly inexhaustible number of cool restaurants and <a href=\"\/journal\/2014\/03\/24\/kraftwerk\/\">cultural activities<\/a>.  LA isn&#8217;t without its downsides, but it&#8217;s also a town with far more unique and exciting places to discover than almost anywhere else in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Not to say that I&#8217;ll be here forever, but so long as Audrey and I do live here there is plenty to appreciate and be grateful for.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/photos\/images\/2013-03-A\/6895_california_science_center_shuttle_endeavour.jpg\" alt=\"The Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" class=\"img-main\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">I get to <a href=\"\/journal\/2013\/03\/31\/oh-my-god-spaceship\/\">share a city<\/a> with the coolest machine ever built by man.
