I’m suffering from insomnia tonight and decided to read a bit rather than just lying in bed awake. I suppose I knew that this was a Lewis Carroll poem, but ever since I was a kid I’ve associated it with the Muppets — I can still remember watching Scooter fighting the Jabberwock and then galumphing back (“galumph, galumph, galumph…”):<\/p>\n\n\n

\n\t\t‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
\n\t\tDid gyre and gimble in the wabe;
\n\t\tAll mimsy were the borogoves,
\n\t\tAnd the mome raths outgrabe.<\/p>\n

\t\t‘Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
\n\t\tThe jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
\n\t\tBeware the Jujub bird, and shun
\n\t\tThe fruminous Bandersnatch!’<\/p>\n

\t\tHe took his vorpal sword in hand:
\n\t\tLong time the manxome foe he sought —
\n\t\tSo rested he by the Tumtum tree,
\n\t\tAnd stood a while in thought.<\/p>\n

\t\tAnd as in uffish thought he stood,
\n\t\tThe Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
\n\t\tCame whiffling through the tulgey wood,
\n\t\tAnd burbled as it came!
